To tackle this challenge, OrganicYieldsUP project aims to create a diverse network across Europe, connecting 11 different regions, each with its own unique climate and soil conditions. It will connect actors from science and practice to jointly reflect on organic yield increase strategies. It will draw recommendations for the future research agenda and development of EU policies relevant for organic production.
The insights and recommendations derived from this project will be shared widely, offering valuable guidance for organic farmers, conventional farmers and those considering making the switch to organic farming. Through this initiative, the aim is to pave the way for a more sustainable and productive organic farming future, benefiting everyone from policymakers to farmers and consumers.
The major challenge lies in bridging the income gap between organic and conventional farming, which undermines the economic competitiveness and resilience of the organic sector.
Despite efforts to improve yields through holistic approach and methods like enhancing soil fertility and optimizing nutrient management, there is still a strong need for greater knowledge sharing and capacity building across Europe to effectively address this issue.
